LONDON TO BRIGHTON (18A) sexual violence, violence , disturbing content AWARDS 6 wins & 6 nominations from UK GENRE(S): Crime | Suspense/Thriller
It’s 3:07am and two girls burst into a run down toilet. Joanne is crying her eyes out and her clothing is ripped. Kelly's face is bruised and starting to swell. Duncan Allen lies in his bathroom bleeding to death. Duncan's son, Stuart, has found his father and wants answers. At the London Critics Circle film awards last year, Lorraine Stanley
was nominated for British Actress of the Year, and if you see London to
Brighton, you'll easily understand why.
From the near-hysteria of this compelling opening sequence, Paul
Andrew Williams's taut, tough and thoroughly satisfying drama grips the
viewer and never lets go until its brutal, surprising conclusion.
Its tautness is satisfying. Not one line of dialogue is superfluous,
not one take is a second too long.
GENRE(S): Romance | Drama
Synopsis: A young woman takes a soul-searching journey across America to resolve her questions about love while encountering a series of offbeat characters along the way. "Few directors regularly exploit so well film's capacity for capturing
the present and the past in the same instant. Wong is plugged into a special
zone that feels that joy of experience and the pain of recollection simultaneously"
"The longer this slice of fanciful blueberry-pie Americana sits with
me, the better I like it."
Despite its flaws, the film has the same dreamy, romantic melancholy
that distinguishes Wong's best films.
EXPELLED: NO INTELLIGENCE ALLOWED GENRE(S): Documentary
Synopsis: This movie follows Ben Stein as he seeks to determine whether Intelligent Design is a pseudo-science trying to undermine evolutionary biology or whether it is legitimate science being suppressed by a scientific establishment that is hostile to any deviation from the status quo. "Bizarre and hysterical"
Don't be put off by the title. This is no sequel, but a surprisingly charming British comedy that is only tangentially associated with "Rambo." USA Today, Claudia Puig SON OF RAMBOW (PG) lang. may offend, violence GENRE(S): Comedy | Drama
Son of Rambow is a hilariously fresh and visually inventive take on friendship, family, film heroes, and the death-defying adventures of growing up in the video age. The story takes place in 1980s Britain, where young Will Proudfoot is raised in isolation among The Brethren, a puritanical religious sect in which music and TV are strictly forbidden. When Will encounters his first movie, a pirated copy of Rambo: First Blood, his imagination is blown wide open. Son of Rambow is filled with small surprises and treasures, a veritable
bounty of delight.
A quirky charmer.
I can't imagine a better movie for children and adults to enjoy together.
Young People F***ing (18A) - Sexual Content, coarse language, nudity Runtime:91 min
"Young People F***ing" is a smart and fast-paced comedy that intertwines the stories of 5 couples over the course of one sexual encounter... Sorry, but intercourse is not the main course here. Instead, this
is a literal sex comedy where laughs are sought, and often found, at every
stage of the act, from 'foreplay' to 'afterglow'.
...a fast-paced and very funny look at contemporary relationships.
